Working in the field of medical and health law, Elena Butaye joined Arcas Law's Healthcare, Pharma & Life Sciences practice group in January 2026.
She is a member of the Antwerp Bar Association.
CredentialsElena spoke at the 29th World Congress of Medical Law (WAML) in Istanbul on “Orphan Medicinal Products: bridging gaps between rare diseases” in August 2025.
EducationElena Butaye studied law at the University of Antwerp. She wrote her thesis on "Government liability and law enforcement during the COVID-19 pandemic", comparing Belgium with India and Sweden. She also completed an internship at a law firm in Ranchi, India, and took classes at the National Law University in New Delhi.
In September 2024, Elena joined the Leuven Bar Association. While interning at Dewallens & Partners – with a focus on health law in the broadest sense –, Elena gained a postgraduate degree in Health Law and Health Ethics (cum laude, 2025) from the University of Antwerp. She wrote her thesis on "Should the deadline for non-medical pregnancy terminations be extended from 12 to 18 weeks?”.
In 2025, Elena gained her "Supralat - Salduz training" certificate.
Finally, Elena is pursuing a postgraduate degree in Human Damage Assessment at KU Leuven.
