  • From day one as a lawyer, Jellina Buelens has focused on the broad field of medical and healthcare law. Over her long years of experience, she has developed an extensive practical knowledge of medical malpractice law, hospital legislation, patient rights, the ethics of care providers, partnerships involving care providers or institutions, as well as data protection in the health sector, and much besides. 

    Jellina provides assistance to healthcare providers, healthcare institutions, patients and other players in the healthcare sector, her role varying from advisory, through mediation, to acting in court cases and the audit of contracts. She possesses detailed knowledge of the field of medicines regulation, food supplements and health products such as medical devices. 

    She is a certified data protection officer (DPO) and assists healthcare providers, healthcare institutions and pharma companies in implementing and applying their data protection rules (such as the General Data Protection Regulation), as well as taking procedures in hand before the relevant officials.

    Jellina is also the President of the Dutch-language Board of Appeal under the Commission of Psychologists.

    Jellina has already been published many times and is regularly asked to lecture on matters in the broad field of medical and healthcare law.

    Education

    Jellina Buelens holds a law degree from KU Leuven (2007). She followed that with a one-year postgraduate in criminology.

    Between 2008 and 2014, Jellina was entered at the Leuven Bar and specialised in medical and healthcare law at the firm of Dewallens & Partners. She then moved to join the medical law practice group at the firm of

    Monard Law. In 2016, she came to Arcas Law and she has been entered at the Antwerp Bar since then. She has been a partner of Arcas Law since 1 January 2021.
