  • Julie Vermeulen is active in the medical law and healthcare law domains. She assists clients on medical liability, among other types of matters, in both civil and criminal proceedings.

    In addition, Julie has experience in advising on cooperative relationships and partnerships in the healthcare sector, patient rights, hospital invoice payment collection, legislation governing hospitals, and hospital financing.

    Credentials

    Julie is often a speaker at seminars and workshops on medical law and healthcare law. At the 2018 World Congress on Medical Law in Tel Aviv, she gave a presentation titled “Controversy over urgent medical aid for illegal immigrants in Belgium.”

    She wrote various articles on medical law and healthcare law, which led her to co-author the “Belgium Country Report” in the book The Law and Policy of Healthcare Financing: An International Comparison of Models and Outcomes, Edward Elgar Publishing, 2019.

    Education

    Julie Vermeulen studied law at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and Université Paris Descartes (and graduated cum laude) in 2016. 

    Afterwards, she obtained a Certificate in Cyberlaw from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, and she worked in Ghana as a pro bono lawyer.

    Julie was a member of the Leuven Bar from October 2016 to September 2019. She did her traineeship at Dewallens & Partners, focusing on healthcare law in the broad sense. During her traineeship, Julie completed another post-graduate degree on healthcare law and health ethics at the University of Antwerp (cum laude) in 2017, and she successfully completed the Special Training on Cassation Proceedings in Criminal Cases. She has been a member of the Antwerp Bar since October 2019.

    Julie is a guest lecturer at EHSAL Management School, teaching the post-graduate management programme on healthcare and well-being, since 2017.

    Julie is a member of the editorial board of the Nieuw Notarieel Kwartaalschrift.

    Julie joined Arcas Law in September 2019 and is a member of the Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals & Life Sciences practice group.
